National and international trips to view development work first-hand can have a major impact on a family’s giving. “In-the-Field” experiences provide families the opportunity to learn about the work of current and prospective grantees and understand the cultural, economic and political factors that impact the success of a program.
On this teleconference, you will learn the ins and outs of organizing such trips, including how to select a destination, deciding whether to work with a trip organizer, and finding service opportunities for family members of all ages.
2010 National Center for Family Philanthropy Teleconference schedule: May 13, June 10, July 8, August 12, September 16, October 14, November 18, and December 9.
Presenters: Bruce Karmazin is executive director at the Lumpkin Family Foundation, and traveled to Uganda last summer with his 15 year old son. Maryann Fernandez is founder and president of Philanthropy Indaba, a family consultant with experience planning global trips.
