Grantmakers of Color group maps strategic goals
More than 30 grantmakers of color gathered on June 6 to share ideas about inclusiveness and racial equity in grantmaking. The Philanthropy Northwest Grantmakers of Color strategic plan and accompanying workplan were presented, and opportunities for individual involvement were offered. Early projects include helping Philanthropy Northwest develop tools to enhance inclusiveness and equality in program planning. The session was led by Marie Kurose of The Paul G. Allen Family Foundation and Ruth Massinga of The Giving Practice (pictured, with Rodney Hines, Starbucks Coffee Company and Foundation).

Farm Bill and IRA rollover legislation affect foundations
Both chambers of Congress passed the 2008 Farm Bill (H.R.2419), which includes a new Rural Collaborative Investment Program (RCIP) and a two-year extension of the expired conservation easement tax incentive. The RCIP program will make long-term matching loans to eligible community foundations, while the conservation easement program provides tax incentives for private landowners to donate their property to land conservancies supported by foundations. The IRA Charitable Rollover extension is now pending in the Senate.
