Idaho Meth Project attracts foundation dollars
14 foundations have contributed approximately $225,000 to the
Idaho Meth Project. The project was launched January 7, after a statewide survey found that many young people see very little risk from using meth. Foundation grants account for approximately 15 percent of the project budget and include two gifts totaling $50,000 from Blue Cross of Idaho Foundation for Health.
The
Idaho Meth Project employs a graphic advertising campaign, public policy involvement and a grassroots outreach to reduce first-time meth use. It is the third of its kind in the nation, and is modeled after the
Montana Meth Project, which receives significant support from the Thomas and Stacy Siebel
Foundation, and is credited with a 45 percent decline in teen meth use
in Montana since it began two years ago.

Regence Foundation
will donate $2.5 million this year and $4 million annually to health care projects in Idaho, Oregon, Utah and Washington. The foundation was launched by The Regence Group, the largest health insurer in the Northwest/Intermountain region.
The foundation will donate to organizations addressing health care access and quality, the use of technology to engage and educate health care consumers, and improvements to the way the health care system supports individuals and families during the end-of-life processes. It
is currently accepting applications in the first category, and will accept applications in the other two categories later this year. Its first grant was a $10,000 grant to the Snake River Community Clinic in Lewiston.
