The Position and Opportunity

The Foraker Group seeks an adaptive individual with high emotional intelligence and an interest in joining a fun, collaborative team as a Leadership Transition Guide.  In support of nonprofits experiencing a change in leadership, the Leadership Transition Guide leads multi-phased consulting projects using a holistic approach and is part of a team of organizational development staff, consultants, and recruiters who partner with Alaska nonprofits through well-managed leadership transitions. In addition to managing a portfolio of leadership transition projects, the Guide will collaborate internally to continually improve our service.  The ideal candidate will have a passion for supporting the advancement of nonprofits and growth of people, a strong ability to act strategically, excellent communication skills, and a commitment to the values of diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership Transition Partner Engagement

  • Manage a portfolio of transition work; actively hold the nonprofit Partner relationship throughout the process; manage project costs, calendar, and pacing for each project; and fold in other Foraker team members as needed for success.
  • Guide the board and staff of our nonprofit Partners through the three phases of the leadership transition process (typically nine-to-twelve-months); tailor the approach and discussions to the needs and context of each nonprofit Partner.
  • Be an ambassador of Foraker’s leadership transition program, developing and strengthening relationships with our nonprofit Partners, and facilitating a seamless and positive experience for the nonprofit Partner, candidates, and Foraker team.
  • Support nonprofit Partners in succession planning as needed.
  • Foster a collaborative work environment; whereby all team members are informed and connected about the progress in leadership transition relationships.\

Leadership Transition Internal Strategy and Administration

  • Contribute to Foraker Leadership Transition team innovation and learning environment to continually improve process and program.
  • Regularly review project performance to ensure projects are effectively managed within time and budget; modify project tools and approaches as needed.
  • Participate in the development of community education courses and materials to support Alaska’s nonprofits in navigating leadership transitions.
  • Support the financial sustainability of the leadership transition program by contributing to marketing and business development and analysis efforts.
  • Support internal Foraker transitions and recruitments, as needed.

Skills and Expertise

  • Ability to see the holistic landscape of each organization; able to adapt and integrate elements of the work and facilitate discussions that lead to success.
  • Demonstrated ability to coach and guide teams and individuals through new approaches, challenging situations, and complex decisions.
  • Commitment to and experience with building relationships with diverse leaders and integrating equity considerations into all elements of project and approaches.
  • Demonstrated understanding of nonprofit organizations and boards.
  • Knowledge of organizational development frameworks and current trends in hiring and recruitment and leadership transition approaches.
  • At least three years of experience leading programs and/or complex projects with high attention to detail.
  • Proven ability to facilitate thoughtful group discussions of up to twenty participants.
  • Ability and willingness to connect with Partners virtually and through travel to remote locations.
